The Creative Retreat : Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the Retreats held?
The Retreat venues have been personally chosen by The Creative Retreat Founder, Jules. Based on her experiences as a quilting teacher and participating in many workshops and retreats herself, Jules selects venues that can comfortably accommodate an intimate group of quilters, allowing plenty of space for machines, cutting space, design walls, collaboration and of course, tea breaks!

Venues are inspiring and spacious and are always co-located with accommodation facilities. Our venues are located within reasonable distances from either capital cities or major regional hubs to assist with your travel arrangements.

Do I need to bring my own sewing machine?
We encourage you to bring your own sewing machine if you can, particularly if you are used to working on it. If you are travelling from interstate or overseas, we have a small number of sewing machines available – don’t let machine worries get in the way of your retreat, just let us know in the notes section when booking.

Will you be holding retreats in my area?
We are working on our 2017 and 2017 bookings already and this includes expanding our locations. Please join the mailing list and be sure to indicate the area you are interested in as this helps to inform our decisions about where the next Retreats will be held.

What is included in the cost of The Creative Retreat?
The Creative Retreat is an all inclusive weekend where expert sewing workshops with a specialist tutor, delicious meals and extended studio time are all taken care of. Designed by a hands-on creative, there’s nothing for you to do other than bring your sewing supplies, relax and make – you can make from morning to midnight if you choose!

Who is behind The Creative Retreat?
Quilter, Sewist, Amateur Fibre Crafter, Obsessive Tinkerer and Community Builder, Jules McMahon.
Jules is a passionate creator who has a flair for pushing boundaries and a deep rooted respect for artisan values which she gained being taught the fundamentals of many crafts from her creative family. These values are reflected throughout The Creative Retreat program.

Who are the tutors?
Our tutors change with each Retreat. Tutors are local and international creative leaders and innovators in their chosen field and often they will be visiting Australia for the very first time when they attend The Retreat. Click here to meet to the current tutors.

Can I pay in instalments?
Yes! You are very welcome to pay in instalments. Information about instalment payments are in the booking pages and also in our terms and conditions page.

How long will I be able to sew for?
Workshops will be run for six hours each day and you will have access to the sewing space from 8am to midnight on Day One and 8am to 6pm on Day Two so you can sew for as long or as little as you like outside of workshop times.

How much access will I have to work with the tutor?
The program is run over two full days and participant numbers are strictly limited to ensure you have the best opportunity to work closely with your tutor.

Do you accept cancellations?

I really want to attend but can’t afford to pay in full right now
That’s OK, we are happy to accept installation payments. A deposit will be required to secure your place, please get in touch to set up a payment plan.

I’ve heard that there are some exciting tutors being announced for future retreats. How can I find out who they are?
Yes, you’re right, there are some very exciting plans for future tutors. We always share details and early-bird registrations with our mailing list first so be sure to join the list if you don’t want to miss out!
